Dressed to impress: a guide to Christmas costumes
Posted by Jonathan Wallace under Christmas Ideas
Regardless of someone's personal feelings towards fancy dress,
the chances are the time will come when that 'themed party'
invite will arrive through the door. For some people, the
immediate reaction may be a panicky 'but what am I going to
wear', whilst for the others the invite will be more of a call
to action and a spur to get their thinking caps on, creative
juices flowing and dazzle the other party goers on the night
with a costume out of this world.
Just because some
people can cobble together a classic fancy dress outfit with
nothing more than some old material, a sewing machine and a
visit to the hairdresser, most people won't have the skills or
even the desire to go to such painstaking lengths to dress to
impress. There are countless ready made costume ideas out there
that will ensure anyone can not only look the part, but also
prepare for the party with nothing more than five minutes spare
'surfing' time and a few clicks of the mouse.
Hallowe'en may be a prime time for fancy dress parties, but
Christmas perhaps isn't too far behind in the 'themed party'
stakes.
With universities on holiday for several weeks,
and many offices more or less closed from before Christmas until
after New Year, most people are in fantastic festive spirits
anyway. So this is a great time to indulge in some costume
capers.
The festive fancy dress spirit is perhaps best
exemplified in the countless charity Santa runs that take place
across the country. Essentially, everyone dresses up as Santa
and runs for 5km whilst raising money for a very good cause too.
For a Christmas fancy dress party at someone's
house, then Santa Claus may be a little too obvious a character,
and you may find that you are not the only one to go dressed as
old Saint Nick. For those who like to appreciate the darker side
of Christmas, then it's perhaps worth considering going dressed
as Scrooge, or even Dr. Seuss's 'The Grinch', the famous
'Christmas stealing' grouch.
For something a little
more upbeat, then a reindeer or elf costume can be easily
procured from many online fancy dress outlets. If the aim of the
game is to go dressed as something really different, then
Christmas tree costumes, snowmen costumes and sexy 'Santa's
helper' costumes will brighten up any festive fancy dress party.
The one thing to remember with any fancy dress party is
that everyone must make at least a little effort. Nobody likes a
Christmas Scrooge (unless they're in costume, of course...) and
the festive period is far more enjoyable when everyone gets into
the spirit of it. Christmas only comes once a year, so it's
worth a little extra effort!
